MEET KEITH
The Man Making the Change
Keith Lara was born in Scottsdale, Arizona and has been an Arizona resident all his life. He graduated from Desert Mountain High school in Scottsdale and went off to NAU to pursue a degree in Computer Science. While living in Flagstaff, he met his now wife and got married before moving back to her hometown west of Buckeye. Keith completed his Bachelor's of Science through NAU online in Computer Information Technology.
Keith started working for the Arizona Department of Transportation in 2018, working at the MVD in Scottsdale. He transferred to Avondale after 6 months and a short while later was promoted to a CDL Examiner out of the Goodyear office. Due to this work, Keith became a licensed CDL driver and used that to his advantage when looking for a more relevant job in IT. The Saddle Mountain Unified School district suffered a bus driver mass resignation in 2020, so Keith met with the superintendent, had an interview, and brokered a deal to drive buses while working IT during the day.
Keith loved working his IT job, so after a year he moved districts so he could work full-time IT at Buckeye Union High School district. There his skills grew substantially and he became the first Help Desk technician at the district in 2023, up from being a Computer technician. Keith then found out about NAU's Education Technology Consortium, which is basically the same job he was doing with BUHSD, but for many districts. When they had an opening, Keith applied and made such an impression, he was offered an Intermediate position right away.
Keith Lara has always been interested in community service and volunteering, earning an Eagle Scout award through his local Boy Scout troop to doing several projects while attending NAU as a student. He continues to show his support to his community by regularly volunteering at All Faith Community Services, Buckeye's local food bank where his mother-in-law works. He also assists his wife in her school events regularly, where she has been a teacher for Liberty Elementary school district and now Saddle Mountain Unified school district.
